Window Art

I work within a partnership designing and installed window art, working with councils, small & large businesses, charities and institutions. Going by The Window Artists we also branched into working together on murals, business branding and events styling. I designed the following and was assisted by my business partner in the installation. Please contact me if you have any enquiries.

MONICA VINADER

MONICA VINADER

For the release of a new range of products, jeweller Monica Vinader contacted us to come up with an idea that showcased the essanse of this new collection. Incorporating imagery of the aquamarine stones and gold, I put together a stylised design that reflected the elegance and communicated the story of the collection. Installed at their flagship store in Duke of York Sq, Chelsea, London.

IKON GALLERY

IKON GALLERY

For their exhibition 'Horror in the Modernist Block', we were asked to create a design that would be used on interior glass panels of the galleries shop that echoed the theme of the exhibition.

I was particularly interested in the Brutalist architecture, the monolithic structures, and anti-trespass street furniture that can be found the city.

YOTEL

YOTEL

The Young V&A and Yotel partnered up for their exhibition Japan: from Myth to Manga and wanted their windows painted to reflect this partnership.

I love Japanese wood block printing of the Ido period, being particular fans of Hokusai, Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi's work which is shown in the exhibition.

All design references were taken from the V&A’s collection. The main window had a striking image of Hokusai’s Great Wave off Kanagawa with a Kuniyoshi octopus, then on the side windows was a collection of Hirosinge landscapes along with a Kuniyoshi dragon and a Hirosinge carp.

THE GOODSYARD

THE GOODSYARD

For a new housing and commercial development in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham we were asked to come up with an eye catching design that was representative of the area. Having lived around the corner I was aware of the seagulls that have made the JQ their home and are apparently the top third reason why people leave this area. Rather than try and disguise this I came up with a design that had these mischievous birds collecting the gems and other items the area is renowned, keeping to a primary colour palette that matched the colours of the Birmingham flag. All digitally designed and then printed onto vinyl.

STAYING COOL @ THE ROTUNDA

STAYING COOL @ THE ROTUNDA

To celebrate 15 years in the iconic city centre building, Staying Cool invited us to be part of a year long series of events that showcase some of Birmingham’s creatives. We were asked to install a big work along their penthouse windows that could be seen from the streets below. Seeing the familiar sights but from a different perspective influenced my design. I took the lengthened word ‘cool’ from the brand and incorporated the city’s best Brutalist and mid-century architecture within it, showing off their dramatic forms and over looked detailing. I hoped to inspire an appreciation of the much maligned ‘concrete monstrosities’ which, much like the Rotunda itself, are/were in beautiful, over looked and in danger of being demolished.

LAND

LAND

Land is a restaurant that specialises in vegetarian haut cuisine. Being located in a busy arcade we thought that the design should offer some privacy to the customers sitting in the window whilst also fitting in with their branding which incorporates dreamy and dramatic landscapes. The design aimed to represent adventure since vegetarian food can still be considered left field by some when considering dining out.
