COP26
Commissioned by Birmingham University for the new Exchange building who were hosting a series of talks. This was for the Upcoming Events printed and digital program, my design to represent Late Night Exchange: COP26, an evening of expert insight, passionate discussion and personal reflection on the global and local threat.
I approached the design wanting to incorporate imagery of compromise and the main issues that need tackling to ensure a sharp reduction in carbon emissions. Choosing a bright palette, the composition is aimed mostly at a youthful target audience who’s interest and futures are most affected, attracting attention to those seeking knowledge and experience as well as those with knowledge of the subject matter.
Further to the initially agreed format the design was used in a digital flyer to promote the evening, a printed programme for the event, which has this illustration on one side and the line-up of events on the back and as an image to be used in presentations for the TED talks
On completion of the COP26 illustration I was approached for a connected project in which the public attending the exhibitions and events that evening, to share with us their stories about the most extreme or worst weather they’ve experienced. These experiences would be written down primarily on postcards on which the illustration would appear.
Keeping to a similar feel of the COP26 design, I drew up a design that was bright, engaging yet not capricious, taking into account that some experiences could be traumatic or triggering.
