Pubs & Bar Commissions
Working nationally, I’ve designed branding, murals and print material for companies in the leisure & hospitality sector working alongside interior design and architecture practices.
Temple Bar, London
Positioned in the basement of a wine bar in the City of London, this is a craft ale bar with a contrastingly rustic feel. The design focuses on the brewing process and the curing of meats (all done on site) along with local landmark elements. Working in the pubs’ brand colour of dark blue on an exposed and rough surfaces, the piece flows around the corned being both educational and decorative.
St Andrews’ Brew House, Norwich
The same company wanted a replication of the design inside their Norwich branch, also utilising the design for the exterior and branding.
The Georgian Town House, Norwich
A family gastro pub, I was employed to come up with a decorative design for a space inside the dining area. The design is an intricately drawn tree mirroring the leafy grounds of the building, with colourful birds nestling within the branches.
Searcy’s, Selfridges Birmingham
A pit stop for high end shoppers, this champagne bar commissioned me for a long piece to adorn a wall expanse along the back of the seating area. Also overlooked from the main shopping concourse, I wanted the design to be intricate yet intriguing from afar, choosing vibrant colours to attract the eye. The design has a Snow White feel, with creatures adorning the fashionable models with clothing and jewellery.
The Cock & Bottle, Notting Hill
To be installed in the awkward stairwell between the two bars and the toilets, this map design features the surrounding areas stretching out from the location up to Portobello Road.
The George Street Social, Oxford
A student bar on a busy street, this bar needed to distinguish itself from the other chain bars in the area. Appealing to the more high brow clientele of student, they wanted a hand drawn aesthetic along with local references and humour in the design work.
I drew up a swing sign based on Hogarth’s Gin Lane comprising elements of local landmarks and literary figures. Also a large window vinyl artwork displaying jokey craft beer and spirit brands intermixed with artefacts from the local museums. Three postcard designs were also commissioned.
Bow Street Tavern, London
I was asked to come up with a logo design to be used in branding and for an exterior flag. The design is a coat of arms featuring imagery of the location’s history. Being in Covent Garden, flowers and fruit & veg line the crest, along with Alfred Hitchcock’s silhouette (once a patron). Nearby theatres are alluded to, along with a Globe (it’s previous incarnation) and also handcuffs (it was once a base the the Bow Street Runners (a precursor to the modern police force).
Beer badge designs were created for their own brand ales and ciders.
The Belle Vue, London
A map of the area to be printed on to grease proof paper to serve their bar food in.
The Waterman, Cambridge
Branding for both the main pub and next door coffee outlet.
